01.Our Policy to Educate Resident of the Orthopaedic Surgery in Keio University

Professor
Morio Matsumoto, MD, PhD

Professor
Masaya Nakamura, MD, PhD

Our orthopaedic department possesses one of the longest history and tradition in Japan. Residents in our department are able to experience various clinical cases under the well-trained instructors not only in our university hospital but also in our affiliated hospitals. The aim of education is not only to master the surgical technique and clinical knowledge, but to develop a sense of humanity. We think it is important to understand patients' complaints sincerely and meet their expectations. We also put large efforts on the basic research. Many physicians engage in high quality research programs and take an academic degree in our research institutions. We hope every resident in our department is able to acquire basic knowledge and skills, and to become a specialist in orthopaedic surgery.

02.Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in Keio University

Residency program in our department is planned to rear a specialized orthopaedic surgeon certified by the Japanese Orthopaedic Association (JOA). Residents are able to learn from conventional therapy to translational medicine. To date, many residents have taken part in our program and become board certified members of the JOA and also become attending orthopaedic surgeons. I hope that many residents will join us and become "real professional" orthopaedic surgeons.
